MetService is completely re-developing NZ's most popular weather app.

The app has been developed from scratch, with a new design, navigation and functionality. In contrast to the existing Towns and Cities App which has been in market for five years, there will be no charge to download it on iPhone or Android phones. It will instead be supported by advertising.

We've talked to and surveyed hundreds of Kiwis and their input has helped us design a really user-friendly app, with relevant content, in a layout that's most useful for you. It contains everyday and important weather information for everyone in New Zealand.

The new app will replace the existing Towns and Cities app. Once the new app launches, the existing app will no longer be officially supported.

What's new?

•    It’s free
•    Organise your weather information so you can find the information that's important to you
•    Search for your local town or use location services for your location
•    Morning, afternoon, evening and overnight weather icons
•    Offline mode for when you are outside of your Wi-Fi area

What doesn't the app include?

The app will not include weather information for mountains, National Parks, marine or surf weather information. You can currently download the Marine or Snow app for Android and iPhone in the app stores.

When will the app be available?

We're aiming to bring the app to the Apple and Google Play app stores in April this year. If you haven't already downloaded the existing app, we recommend you use the mobile website on your phone browser until the new app becomes available. This will save you $2.99.

More information about the app will be available on our Facebook Page, so check it out, vote for your favourite app icon and hear the latest news there!
